Ebewar-South : Commonwealth of the Aronai : History

The history of the Aronai is chaotic and bloody and as such to complex to describe. Originally they came from North-Ebewar and journeyed south with other peoples of the Orai. Once they tried to settle down, cultural differences caused strife and the Aronai decided to travel eastward. There they countered the Haoi, another Orai people, and again they went east until they came to a largely unhabited mountainous land with many valleys. It was a rough and harsh land, because the land was not only mountainous but was also part of a high plateau. Because of this the climate was colder than elsewhere on the same latitude and the cold gulfstream from the north that went along the coast did not contribute either. This situation however, did provide a natural defense against other nations. Overall it was fairly secluded with vast mountains and forest to the west and the east.

Slowly the Aronai expanded to the south where they met the civilized Segai. Battles followed, which were mostly lost against the far better organized and equipped Segai armies. As such southern borders were established. Even without enemies, the Aronai often fought, against the different clans. Fertile lands were valuable. For centuries the Aronai Highlands were drenched in blood. Finally a majority of the Clan Lords became tired of the endless blood feuds. An agreement was made and a Commonwealth was set up in 1828 according to strict rules. It wasn't an end to the feuds and fights, but now they became controlled and normalized. It allowed the clans to prosper and grow.

A number of peaceful clans lived in the southeast near the Setic Empire. They had been working together closely and adopted many civilization traits from their Segai neighbors. Eventually they wanted to break with the old Aronai ways and only keep the core of what was Aronai, and grow into real strength, as they saw it. In 2829 they broke away from the Commonwealth and declared themselves independent as the kingdom of Atrogia. A great number of Aronai clans were furious and took off to war. The Council of Clan Lords could not come to an agreement on the matter, so only those who wanted to punish the oath breakers were free to fight. The Atrogians were quite prepared for the response and defended their borders with success, even as the attacks went on for decades. It took several centuries before normal relationships were established, but the Atrogians were not dependent on the Commonwealth and gained strong support from the Segai neighbors.
