Rulership

The Commonwealth of the Aronai is a peculiar nation as it is not really a nation in the technical sense. The Commonwealth was formed in 1828 to set up general regulations, standards and laws that would apply to all clans of the Aronai. This to limit the blood feuds that had plagued the Aronai clans for many centuries. A number of safe travel routes were determined where traders and travelers could safely go. All trade would stop as long as a clan leader would not punish the ones would broke the treaty. Also part of the treaty was that in times of external danger the Council of clan leaders would appoint a general to lead a combined force of all the clans. Every clan had to contribute a minimum number of men. Once a year all clan leaders would meet together. Agon was decided to be most central and easily reachable, although occasionally Vongva and Gyonjyor have also functioned as a meeting place. This system has worked quite well since that time. The Aronai became stronger and prosperous.

Nobility

The Aronai culture has no nobility in the regular sense. Most clans have a number of families which have held great power for centuries. The leader of the family is usually called Chief, but does not have to be the eldest of the main branch, as he is elected. However, Chiefs are also elected for communities without a dominant family and in such the position can switch between families. The same principle applies to the Lord of the Clan. He is also elected and while it is common that a certain family dominate for a long time, it is not uncommon that other are chosen if the latest Lord failed miserably.

International relations

The Aronai are an aggressive people. They like to fight and brawl and measure each other's strength. As their land is not very fertile or rich, they like to raid, although the neighboring countries have set up a strong border defense, so that the raiding usually happens between clans. There has been continuous warfare with Gawa for many centuries, although actual fighting did not often happen. They were mostly border skirmishes. Only at occasions, when there was strong unity, real battles were fought. After the foundation of Atrogia, several small wars were fought with Atrogia, but the last few centuries relations have been fairly well, although differing between each clan. The Aronai have little interest in the outside world, although young Aronai often venture south to fight as mercenaries.
